Din l-Art Ħelwa is organising a photographic competition for the marine environment in order to raise awareness about the importance and state of the coastline and surrounding waters of Malta.

This initiative constitutes part of the Blue Campaign undertaken by the heritage and environmental organisation and is open to all diving schools, clubs, students, lovers of the environment and the public in general.

Awards of €250 each will be presented to the winners of the two categories for photographic entries. The first is for photographs capturing examples of the negative effects of human activity on the sea or the coastline for which underwater filming is not necessary. The second category is for photographs showing the beauty and unique qualities of underwater life.

The winning applications will be announced during Notte Bianca at 133 Melita Street, Valletta, at 8.30 p.m. As part of the Notte Bianca programme, Din l-Art Ħelwa will be opening its 17th Century Palazzo Nobile headquarters to the public where the marine photographic exhibition will be on show.

Applicants can request an entry form via e-mail on info@dinlarthelwa.org till mid-July, quoting ‘Marine Photography Competition’ in the subject. Alternatively, visit the premises at 133 Melita Street, Valletta. The competition closes on September 15.

Another art competition is being held by Euro Media Forum and Science is Culture for children up to the age of 14. The competition is open until June 22 and revolves around the character of Batman to coincide with the release of the superhero movie in July.

Participants are required to draw and colour a Batman picture. All entries will be exhibited at the Italian Cultural Institute.

The judging panel will consist of a number of professionals in the field of comic book creation and the winner will receive two children’s tickets plus one ticket for an accompanied parent to attend the Spiderman premiere at the Eden Cinemas in July.

Each participant is allowed one entry which should be submitted on an A4 paper containing the drawing of Spider-Man together with the name, telephone number, identification number of participant or legal guardian, email and home address.

Entries can be submitted by post or delivered by hand to the reception staff at the Italian Culture Institute, St George’s Square, Valletta, during office hours.

Participants and their parents are invited to attend the Batman vs Spider-Man event that will take place at the Italian Cultural Institute on June 25 at 7 p.m. The winner will be announced during this event. Entrance is free.
