The Malta Transport Employee's Union (MTEU), which represents a number of Arriva drivers, said today that arrogance and a negative attitude by the Arriva management is causing hardship and tension among the drivers and workers to the detriment of passengers.

The union, which is not recognised by the bus company, said the events at the end of last week (the suspension of 40 bus drivers) were the result of frustration being suffered by the drivers , with the majority of them being threatened by repeated warnings, suspensions and transfers without reason.

The union also claimed that its members are being discriminated against, because of their membership. It noted that the Arriva management had refused to meet its officials, two months after a meeting was requested.

It called on Arriva to change its attitude to the union and the drivers.
