Richard Hall, Arriva Malta's third managing director in two years, is to step down and will leave the company, the staff have been informed. Mark Bowd will be taking over. He has been in Malta for several months

The surprise development comes days after Mr Hall spoke in an interview of how the company was looking forward to its winter timetable to build on progress made in the summer timetable introduced a few days ago.

Keith Bastow led Arriva when it introduced services in Malta. He resigned for health reasons while the company was being strongly criticised for its service. Dave Kaye took over in January last year until Mr Hall took over the helm a year ago.

Arriva said Mr Bowd will continue moving the business forward and building on the strong foundations and progress achieved so far.
