A man from Valletta was yesterday ordered to attend a drug rehabilitation programme after he pleaded guilty to using false Bank of Valletta cheques.

Neville Cassar admitted to using false cheques in Ħamrun and defrauding Bank Of Valletta, Warp Speed Technology Ltd, Sunlab shops and Marcomp Ltd on February 29. The court heard how Mr Cassar would use the cheques to purchase various items.

Magistrate Anthony Vella took into consideration the fact that Mr Cassar had returned all the goods he purchased by using the false cheques and that he needs the help of a drug rehabilitation programme.

Police Inspector Mario Tonna prosecuted.

Lawyer José Herrera appeared for Mr Cassar.
