A 19-year-old Nigerian man was yesterday charged with conspiring to deal in about a kilogramme of cocaine after the police allegedly caught him when he was about to sell the drugs.

With his face buried in his hands, Pascal Okafor sobbed in the dock as he waited for his arraignment hearing to begin.

Mr Okafor, who resides in St Paul's Bay, pleaded not guilty to conspiring to deal in the drug and its possession with the intent to sell on and before Friday.

Police Inspector Johann Fenech told Magistrate Antonio Mizzi that the police had been following Mr Okafor's movements for a long time and, on Friday, "he was caught in the act about to sell drugs" in St Paul's Bay.

Mr Okafor was remanded in police custody.

Lawyer Martin Fenech was defence counsel.
