Local architects convinced their skills are a cut above their peers' have until the start of September to enter their projects into a competition to determine Malta's best architecture projects.
The 2016 Malta Architect Awards were launched today by executive organisers iMNG with the support of the Planning Authority, and will seek to showcase projects contributing towards quality design in local streetscapes and urban contexts.
Eight different categories have been established, with separate awards for:
- Rehabilitation & Conservation Projects,
- Public Buildings
- Residential Projects
- Interior Design Projects
- Hospitality & Leisure Projects
- Infrastructural & Engineering Projects
- Sustainable Development
- Young Architect Award
The awards will be announced at the end of September by a jury composed of both local and foreign professionals and which include representatives from the Royal Institute of British Architects and the Architects’ Council of Europe.
The jury will also be supported by a technical team made up of experts in their own fields, depending on the category topic.
Planning Board chairman Vince Cassar said that the new Planning Authority was hard at work "to ensure that high quality design is at the forefront of development planning applications."
He said the PA's new DC15 and the setting up of a Design Advisory Committee were both examples of this new drive.
Interested Periti and organisations may submit their projects at the Fortress Builders Valletta between the August 29 and September 2.
