Archbishop Paul Cremona underlined the need to strengthen the culture of peace when he delivered homily this morning during Pontifical Mass to mark Victory Day.

He pointed out that Victory Day recalled two military victories - the Great Siege of 1565 and the Second World War, when thousands of lives had been lost.

When the Lord rose from the dead, his message was not one of victory, but of peace, he said.

"What are our children learning through mass communication these days? Is it about peace or victory? mgr Cremona asked.

He said it  was the duty of every catholic to live and promote peace at home and at work.

Those present for the Mass included President and Mrs Abela, the Prime Minister and Mrs Gonzi, the Leader of the Opposition and Mrs Muscat , members of the judiciary, and former presidents.
