Archbishop Mgr Paul Cremona chose workers in the public transport sector to kick off celebrations on the occasion of the feast of St Joseph the Worker that is marked by the Church in May 1.

Last Sunday, Mgr Cremona celebrated Mass for public transport employees at the yard of the Central Bank in Valletta.

In a homily, Mgr Cremona said he was aware of the reality of such work which called for sacrifice by those operating the service.

Their work demanded a lot of patience since the workers came in contact with many people. At the same time one acknowledged that there is always room for an improvement in the service.

He also urged operators to show respect to those using this public service, especially those having special needs. Concelebrating with Mgr Cremona was Fr William Bartolo, coordinator of the Pastoral Section for the World of Labour, and Fr Paul Deguara who celebrates Mass for public transport workers every Sunday.

After Mass Mgr Cremona met the workers individually at a kiosk at the bus terminus area.

The programme in celebration of the feast continues on Monday at 9.30 a.m. when Mgr Cremona will visit hawkers at Il-Monti open air market in Valletta, Café Cordina and the Allied Group, publishers of The Times and The Sunday Times.

On April 30 at 10 a.m., Mgr Cremona will visit workers employed with the Manufacturing and Services Department in Marsa.
