The weather over Malta was drier and warmer than usual last month, independent weather forecaster firstmalta.com reported today, coincidentally during the heaviest burst of rain in many weeks.

Less than 4mm of rain fell in  over the Maltese islands spread out over four days last month, whereas in a typical April, Malta would receive around 24mm of rainfall spread over 10 days.

The highest rainfall for April ever recorded in 1994, with 163.1mm of rainfall.

The average daily high was 21C last month whilst the lowest was 13C, whereas the average high is 20C and lows reach 14C. The highest was thus awarmer than usual and the lowest mean temperature was colder.

The highest maximum temperature ever recorded in Malta in April was 31.7C, in 2008. The highest last month was on the 13 at 29C and a low of 19C.

It said its data is an aggregate of opensource weather station data, which may be slightly different to other weather channels or meteorological office data due to location.

It said this drier and hotter than usual weather could be due to a strong El Niño effect registered throughout the world.
