J. Aquilina, writes:

I was saddened last week to read news of Henry Micallef being called to a higher kingdom. I proffer my sincerest condolences to his widow, children and other members of his family at this sad loss.

His passing away marks the end of an era of gentlemen bankers who, after the political independence of the mid-1960s, drove Malta from its colonial past to the acquisition of real economic independence. Malta would not be where it is today without their honest enterprise.

I had the honour and the privilege to have dealt with him personally, and I was always edified by his correctness. His family can be truly proud of this man and of the good reputation legacy he bequeaths them.

His memory will remain, for those who knew him, as an example and a guiding light on how to steadfastly keep to one's principles even under heavy stress, indeed duress.
