Just as an altitude indicator becomes crucial for anyone piloting an aircraft in poor visible conditions, Geoff O’Bryne White was that source of comfort over the 30 years of collaborative relationship I had with him. On June 11, at Kinsale in County Cork Ireland, Geoff unexpectedly passed away.

I have known and worked with Geoff throughout my career in the aviation world and the sense of control and support in turbulent or not so turbulent times he always demonstrated were second to none.

He was also the source of relevant thrust when you needed the push to take off.

My link with Geoff started through my various ranks at Air Malta. We had a collaborative arrangement where through his company, PARC Aviation, he used to supply the airline with human resources like engineers or pilots whenever Air Malta required.

Testimony to this are various colleagues with whom I worked at Air Malta over the years. In Geoff, they saw professionalism, dedication and expertise.

We collaborated very closely during our time as directors of an aircraft leasing company in Shannon Ireland. During my period at Lufthansa Technik and his time at CitiJet, we used to sound each other out on the various developments and his insight and expertise were always very valuable.

Geoff visited Malta many times since the 1960s and he actually made it his home for several years. It was only 10 days from his demise that he relocated to Ireland with his wife.

Before relocating, he set up Bravo Aircraft Technical Services Limited (BATS), an independent EASA Part 145 Line Maintenance facility for commercial aircraft approved by Transport Malta Civil Aviation Directorate.

This venture is a tangible demonstration of his love and commitment towards Malta and his belief in the potential of the country and its resources. I will never forget how proud he was during the official launch of the company last month.

I am convinced that together with the team at BATS, personally chosen by Geoff, we will be building on his foundations to continue the legacy he started.

To his wife, Nicole, and his daughters, Elise and Lexie, I convey my sincere and deepest condolences.

For his gentlemanly character and professionalism, Geoff will be truly missed by his friends and those who had the privilege to work with him.
