Peter Tortell, of Sliema, writes:

The recent passing away of Franz Frendo has left a big void in the waterpolo fraternity, especially those who frequent the Sliema pitch which was his second home.

Frendo was a former Sliema player, coach and official for many years. Besides, he was also coach of the national team.

Frendo was the perfect gentleman and a shining example of "Fair Play" throughout his career. Apart from his sporting career, I am told his long service in the Customs Department was yet another example of his close friendship with all his colleagues and clients.

Franz will be terribly missed especially by his devoted sister Ġuża and all his family, and also by a large circle of friends. Only recently, he had asked me for information about this year's opera in Gozo in October which he, together with Guża, attended each year.

Franz's last wish was to be inducted in the hall of Fame of the Maltese Olympic Committee. I hope the MOC will take note of this.
