The draw for the selection of children to be admitted to kindergarten classes in Church schools will be held this afternoon at the Curia.

The Curia said that a total of 3,205 applications were made for 1,056 places. That number was down from 3,266 applications last year and 3,214 applications in 2008. There had been 3,328 applications in 2007; 3,352 applications in 2006 and 3,436 applications in 2005.

The Curia said there were 1,144 applications for 279 places in Kinder I.

These included 78 who applied under the special cases category, for 30 places, 97 children who already had siblings in Church schools and one application from a Church home, leaving 151 places for applications drawn by ballot.

The draws for admission to kindergarten II will be held tomorrow, followed by that for Year 1 on Wednesday.

For Kinder II, there were 1,182 applications and 337 will be admitted. That includes 45 special cases and 114 siblings leaving 178 places for the draw.

In the case of Year One, there were 979 applications for 440 places. There are 57 places for special cases (out of 171 applications) 91 for siblings and 1 for an application from a Church home, leaving 291 places for children whose names are dawn by ballot.
