At a council meeting last Wednesday, Anton Borg, FCCA, FIA, CPAA, was unanimously elected president of the Malta Federation of Industry.

The FOI council for this year includes: deputy president Adrian R. Bajada, ACEA, FFA, AMIA, CSA; vice-presidents Ian J. Mizzi, BA (Luther), Joseph Pace, FIA, CPA, Martin Galea, ACA, and Anthony J. Tabone, Dip. MRS, MCIM.

The other members of the council includes Anthony S. Diacono, Helga Ellul, Andy Gatesy, B.Eng, MBA, M.Inst. Export (Grad); Gene E. Gretchen, B.Sc., Godwin C. Micallef, FIPC, MIM, David Mifsud, Joseph L. Pace, FMAAT, and Joseph Zammit Tabona, FCA, CPAA, FIA, AMIT, KM.

Anton Borg, 43, received his secondary education at St Aloysius College, Birkirkara, and subsequently furthered his studies in accountancy in London where he obtained his ACCA, graduating in 1983. In 1985 he became a member of the Malta Institute of Accountants.

He obtained the warrant of Certified Public Accountant and Auditor after having worked with the firm now known as PricewaterhouseCoopers.

He served on the Council of the Malta Institute of Accountants for 14 years, from 1986 to 2000, holding various posts including that of president for two years from June 1997. In 1999 he was elected to the council of the Malta Federation of Industry where he served as deputy president for the past two years.

During the latter period he was one of the two FOI representatives on the Board of Trustees of the Malta Business Foundation, and he was the president's alternate on the Board of Directors of the Malta External Trade Corporation (METCO) and on the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development.

He is joint managing director of two companies, namely J.B. Plastics Limited and Elepac Limited.

Mr Borg is married and has two sons and a daughter.
