Antoine Attard was last night appointed new president of Premier League side Hamrun Spartans during a committee meeting at the club premises.

Attard succeeds Dr David Farrugia Sacco, who had filled this post for the past six months but then decided against seeking a re-election.

Attard is not a new face in the club as for the past five years he was a committee member serving as club administrator.

Telecommunications consultant Anthony Debono, who was approached by the Spartans committee members to take over the reins of the club, has agreed to form part of the new board and will be the Hamrun council member.

The other official posts in the 15-man committee, elected last week, are Victor Attard and Victor Zammit who will act as vice-presidents, Simon Attard is the treasurer and Saviour Baldacchino, the club secretary.
