The Committee Against the Recycling Plant at Marsascala said this morning it will be seeking the advice of several members of the EU Petitions Committee, including that of MEP Simon Busuttil, to continue to fight its case at local institutions.

The Petitions Committee closed its case on Tuesday adopting a report by the European Commission that the residents’ objections did not fall under EU competence but had to be contested in Malta.

A petition signed by around 8,000 Marsascala residents had been presented to the Petitions Committee in the fight against the development of the plant.

The Petitions Committee said it was closing the case as there was no violation of EU law.

It also warned the Maltese authorities to respect the interests of residents in environmental projects, the committee against the plant said.
