Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar is holding its annual art exhibition under the patronage of Tourism Parliamentary Secretary Mario de Marco at the Auberge d’Italie, Merchants Street, Valletta.

The exhibition ‘L-Ilwien tal-Mediterran’ features paintings by Anthony Calleja, one of Malta’s foremost artists.

Born in 1955, Calleja has been involved in art from an early age, and is a self-taught painter.

By the late 1970’s he had his first one-man show at the Museum of Fine Arts in Valletta and has participated in various collective and solo exhibitions overseas.

His work is on display at various public buildings and forms part of many prestigious private collections. He was also commissioned to paint the altarpiece for St Martin’s Church in Bahrija.

This exhibition shows Anton Calleja taking a further step away from pure figurative art, experimenting with the shapes and colours that best symbolise the lands he has painted, all within the Mediterranean, and yet all so different.

Calleja’s trademark balconies and boats come to the fore, but a new interpretation of landscapes is sure to attract his loyal followers and gain new admirers.

The exhibition will be open from November 20 to December 10, Mondays to Fridays between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. and on Saturdays between 10 a.m. and noon.

Entrance is free.
