The next election will be held on the fifth anniversary of the EU referendum. We can all recall how the two parties (as always) were opposing each other in every way possible. The Labour Party was proposing "partnership" and turning Malta into a Switzerland in the Mediterranean, while then Prime Minister Eddie Fenech Adami was extolling the advantages the full membership. And full membership it was!

Now, my particular interest happens to be cars. As a full European citizen, to buy my 12-year-old dream car will cost €13,600 plus a minimum of €19,800 in tax and an extra €3,500 in VAT on top of everything. So much for freedom of movement within EU states!

Being election time I ask, which party is prepared to take action on this matter and another very important one - illegal immigration? I think that the Maltese are tired of hearing about jobs, education, inflation and the economy. It seems to me that there are quite a few topics which no one likes to talk about but all these "minor" issues happen to affect the public. What we need are politicians who listen to our problems and get them solved, not push them aside and tackle just what they feel like.

As much as it is our duty to go out and vote, it is also our right to have our questions answered, and I would love to know what the PN and MLP's views are on these two topics.
