Another earth tremor was felt in Malta early this afternoon and recorded by the Seismic Monitoring and Research Unit of the University of Malta.
It is believed to have been caused by a 4.9 magniture earthquake some 58km deep near Crotone in Southern Italy. No damage was caused in Italy or Malta.
A 5.7 magnitude earthquake off southern Greece was also felt in Malta late yesterday, It also caused no damage.
The University said yesterday's earthquake was 110 km below the earth’s surface in the sea just offshore Southern Greece. The deep earthquake posed no risk of generating a tsunami.
From reports on the SMRU online questionnaire, the tremor was felt mostly at localities in the eastern and central parts of Malta. These mostly reported a “trembling” and some rattling of doors and windows but no damage was reported.
