The MV Ariana, was hijacked by pirates in the Indian Ocean yesterday, the second Maltese-registered vessel to be taken in a week.

Somali gunmen seized the MV Ariana with a crew of 24 Ukrainians on board when the vessel was en route to the Middle East from Brazil. The hostages are said to be unhurt.

The bulk carrier was carrying soya and belongs to All Oceans Shipping in Greece and is managed by London-based Seven Seas Maritime.
