VITTORIOSA STARS 2 MOSTA 5
Danilo Doncic’s troops put five past an ailing Vittoriosa side to register a second convincing display in three days.
Mosta break the deadlock shy the half hour, Piccioni was granted freedom to tear up the right wing, raced into the box before squaring for Messias whose shot has the better of Cini.
In the 55th minute, Michael Camilleri scythed down Piccioni to end Mosta’s first venture towards the Vittoriosa box after the break. Martins smashed the ensuing free-kick against Cini’s left-hand post. Yet, Mosta doubled three minutes later through a scrappy goal when Kane Farrugia send in a ball across goal which was inadvertently tapped in by Michael Camilleri.
Piccioni who devastated Vittoriosa with his quick forays, finished the game as a contest after 75 minutes with Micallef providing a low cross for the Italian striker to power home. Three minutes later, Christian Martins heaped more misery on Vittoriosa when he arrowed the ball into the corner of the net with a precise free-kick.
Spiteri’s side spent the second half searching for a consolation and Gilbert Martin’s goal meant that Mosta did not keep a clean sheet for a second consecutive time. But Mosta’s defensive fragilties were a concern for another day as Messias flicked the ball over a hesitant Cini to take fans’ acclaims. Yet, Vittoriosa hit back again as Marcelo Pereira made the score respectale for his side.
