Obituaries
ABELA. On April 26, at St Vincent de Paul Residence, CARMEN (sive Lilly), of Sliema, went to meet the Risen Lord at the age of 80, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her son Fr Eric Overend, archpriest of Żejtun, the Overend family, other relatives, close friends and neighbours in Sliema. The funeral leaves St Vincent de Paul Residence tomorrow at 1.15pm for St Gregory parish church, Sliema, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2pm, followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to the Archbishop’s Seminary, Tal-Virtu, will be appreciated.
BUSUTTIL. On April 27, THERESA, aged 92, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her brother Joseph and her sister Carmen Wood residing in England, her nieces and nephew, Denise and Carmel Callus, Maria and Sonny Grixti, Neville and Barbara Wood, Nathalie and Stefan Jaeggi and Nadya and Timothy Henwood, her great-nieces and great-nephews, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves St Vincent de Paul Home for the Elderly tomorrow for St Theresa Sanctuary, Birkirkara, where Mass praesente cadavere will be celebrated at 9.15am followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. The family would like to thank the nuns and staff at St Catherine’s Home, Attard, for their great care and dedication throughout these past 20 years as well as the nurses at St Vincent de Paul. DIMECH. On April 26, at the Little Sisters of the Poor, Ħamrun, MARIA, née Gatt, of Ħamrun, widow of Emanuel, aged 82, passed peacefully away, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her daughters Tania and Carmen and her husband Alfred, her grandchildren David, Christopher and his fiancée Stephanie, Bryan and his fiancée Abigail, Audrey-Ann and Marita, her sisters Vivian and Melita and their families, relatives and friends. The funeral Mass will be held at the Little Sisters of the Poor, Hamrun, tomorrow at 9am, followed by interment in the Police Grave at Santa Maria Addolorata cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Moviment Ġesù fil-Proxxmu, Gozo, will be greatly appreciated. The family regret they are unable to receive visitors.
FARRUGIA. On April 27, at Sir Paul Boffa Hospital, RITA, aged 89, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her daughters Josephine, widow of Jo Jo, and Ben, her grandchildren Charlotte and her husband Mark, Joanne and her husband Lawrence, and Malcolm and his wife Stef, her sister Ċensina, her great-grandchildren Hannah, Rosheen and Jamie, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 9am for Sacro Cuor parish church, Sliema, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 9.30am, followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata cemetery. VELLA SULTANA. On December 18, with his family by his side, VINCENT, aged 69, passed peacefully away. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Alfrida, née Mallia, their two sons Spencer, his wife Tanya and children Leanne and Lacey; Alastair, his wife Toni-Anne and a child expected in the summer. Vincent will be missed by his brother Joseph Vella and family, two sisters Mary Massa and Grace Bugelli and their families. His memory will live on in those who experienced his generous spirit and kind heart. A Mass for the repose of his soul will be said on May 3 at 7pm at Żabbar parish church to mark Vincent’s 70th birthday. No flowers by request, but donations to Macmillan Cancer Trust, England, will be appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal rest.
