BUGEJA. On January 17, LUCY, of Paola, aged 80, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her beloved husband Charles, her son Charles and his wife Catherine, her daughter Mariel and her grandchildren Claudia and Kristian, other relatives and friends. Mass praesente cadavere will be said at Christ the King parish church, Paola, tomorrow, Wednesday at 8.30 a.m. followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

CIANCIO. On January 17, at Mater Dei Hospital, VIRGILIO DARIO, (ex-engineer and ex-kurunettista), aged 79, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved wife Mary Agnes, née Cremona, his children Angelina and her husband Joseph Gauci, Dorothea and her husband Vishnu Balani, and Christopher and his wife Anna, his grandchildren Shaan, Tiziana, Ilaria and her fiancé Clive, Ornella and her fiancé Kelvin, and Andre, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow, Wednesday, at 2 p.m. for the Immaculate Conception parish church, Ħamrun, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m. followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Id-Dar tal-Providenza will be appreciated. The family regret they are unable to receive visitors. The family also thanks the staff at Mater Dei Hospital for their kind care and dedication. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

FENECH. On January 16, CHARLES (Nenu) aged 72, at Mater Dei Hospital, passed peacefully away surrounded by his loving family, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Lucia, née Cachia, his daughter Graziella wife of Michael Mifsud, his sons Michael and his wife Berta, Martin and his wife Sharon, his beloved grand-children Jessica, Jack, Michela, Martina, Mark, David and Lisa, his sister Mary Schembri and his brother Sam, his in-laws Maria Bonello, Tony Cachia and Patricia Cachia, nephews, nieces and his many friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 8 a.m. for the Carmelite parish church, Balluta where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 8.30 a.m. followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to the Renal Unit will be greatly appreciated. The family would like to thank the staff at the Mater Dei wards, MITU S2 and M3 for their kind care and dedication.

GRECH. On January 17, ELIZABETH, of Kalkara, widow of Emmanuel, aged 76, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her brother John Calleja and his wife Carmen, her in-laws, nephews and nieces amongst them Antonella and her husband Robert and Nathalie and her husband Adrian, their children, other relatives and friends. Mass for journalists

A concelebrated Mass for journalists will be held at the Catholic Institute in Floriana on Monday at 6 p.m. on the occasion of the liturgical feast of St Francis de Sales, patron saint of journalists.

This is being done on the initiative of Leħen is-Sewwa. Pastoral secretary Mgr Charles Cordina will give a message to all those involved in the mass media.

Meanwhile, Gozo Bishop Mario Grech will celebrate Mass at the church of the Franciscan Nuns of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in Palma Street, Victoria, on the same day at 5 p.m.

Free documentary for schools

Primary schools are being invited to exclusive free screenings of the Disney nature documentary The Crimson Wing – Mystery of the Flamingos.

The documentary will be shown daily at 10 a.m. from January 24 to 28 at Eden Cinemas in St Julians.

The Crimson Wing documents the lives of lesser flamingos at their Lake Natron breeding grounds in Tanzania, highlighting the difficulties they face in the wild by following the life of an orphaned baby flamingo.

This is an initiative of Dinja Waħda, Bank of Valletta and BirdLife Malta’s environmental education programme for primary schools, carried out in collaboration with the Directorate for Quality Standards in Education.

Interested primary schools can book by calling BirdLife Malta on 2134 7644/5. Seats are limited and bookings are on a first-come-first-served basis.

Ecumenical service

A Diocesan Ecumenical Service will be held tomorrow at 6.30 p.m. at St Publius parish church in Floriana. The theme is One In The Apostles’ Teaching, Fellowship, Breaking of Bread and Prayer (Acts 2,42).

Archbishop Paul Cremona will preside over the service while St Paul’s Anglican Pro-Cathedral Chancellor Simon Godfrey Valletta will preach. This forms part of a week of prayer for Christian unity.
