AZZOPARDI. On December 27, at Mater Dei Hospital, IMELDE, of the Sisters of Charity, aged 76, passed away peacefully to meet the Risen Lord, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity, her sister Carmen and her husband Anthony, nieces, other relatives and friends. The cortège will leave the hospital today at 7.45 a.m. for the parish church of Birżebbuġa where Mass praesente cadavere will be celebrated at 8.30 a.m., followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Mary Rose and her husband Alfred Micallef, Sancio and his wife Helen, Alfred and his wife Doreen, Austin and his wife Joan, Miriam and her husband Frank Testa, Josephine and her husband John Dimech, Paul and his wife Lily, Raymond and his wife Hanne, her grandchildren, Christopher, Joanne, Ann, Christine, Robert, Andrew, Lara, Maria, Katya, Justin, Gianella, Frank Jnr, Sarah, Ruth, Amy, Angela, Kelly Ann, Mia, her beloved great-grandchildren, her sister Olga and her husband Lewis Sammut, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 1.30 p.m. for Jesus of Nazareth parish church, Sliema, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m., followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be greatly appreciated. May God grant her eternal rest.

BALDACCHINO. On December 27, at Mater Dei Hospital, JOSEPH, aged 51, of Żurrieq and residing at Attard, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Sally, his children Dorothy, Janice and her husband Joseph, Maurizio, Maryliz and Michele, his granddaughter Racquela, his parents Maria and Alfred, his sister Doris and brothers Michael and Emmanuel and his wife Grace, other relatives and friends. The funeral cortege leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 3 p.m. for St Catherine parish church in Żurrieq, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 3.30 p.m. Attendees are kindly requested to bring a white flower as a symbol of his everlasting energy and short life. SPITERI. On December 22, in San Francisco, JOE, formerly of Ħamrun, aged 88, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Carmen, his children Charles, George, Tessie and Josie and their spouses, his grandchildren, his sisters Mary and Margaret, his brothers Tony, Spiro and Saviour and their families, other relatives and friends. The funeral takes place today in San Francisco. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

Late SEC examinations registration

The Director of Examinations has issued a final call for candidates who failed to register for the Secondary Education Certificate (SEC) examinations.

The Department of Examinations will be receiving late applications between January 5 and 7.

Candidates in Malta can submit their application at the Examinations Department in Floriana while those in Gozo can do so at the Examinations Centre in Victoria.

Apart from the regular charges, an additional fee of €46.59 has to be paid for each application.

Sino-Maltese relations

Chinese Ambassador Zhang Keyuan will be guest of honour at an Asian buffet dinner the Malta-China Friendship Society will hold on January 15 at the Hotel Excelsior.

The event will be held to mark the 39th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malta and China on January 31, 1972.
