CORDINA. On December 26, at Mater Dei Hospital, GEORGE, aged 62, passed away peacefully. He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved wife Lilian, his daughter Pamela, his sisters, brothers, in-laws, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 7.45 a.m. for St Julians parish church where Mass will be said at 8.15 a.m. followed by private burial. EBEJER. On December 25, ETIENNE of Sta Luċija, aged 34, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Fiona, his beloved children Nicole, Mariah and Keah, his father Joseph and his mother Mary Connie, his wife’s parents Grazio and Adriana Theuma, his brother-in-law Eman and his fiancée Maxlene, uncles and aunties, cousins, relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 2 p.m. for St Pius X parish church, Sta Luċija, where Mass praesente cadavere will be celebrated at 2.30 p.m., followed by interment in the family grave at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Marisa, his sons Stefan and his wife Rita, Jean Paul and Pierre, his mother Grace, his brother Paul and wife Maria and sons Ian and Reuben, his sisters Rosaline and Maria, his sister-in-law Sylvana, her husband Giovanni and their daughter Mireille and fiancée Anthony, his mother-in-law Ginette Grech, staff at APS Bank, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Gozo General Hospital today at 3.30 p.m. for Savina Square, Victoria, followed by Mass praesente cadavere at the Cathedral church. VELLA. On December 26, at Mater Dei Hospital, JOSEPHINE of Gżira, aged 54, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband Martin, her children Anthony and his wife Elaine, Marvin and his fiancée Nicolette, her granddaughter Emma, her sisters and their families, in-laws, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital on December 31 at 1.30 p.m. for Gżira parish church where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2 p.m., followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Requiem Mass

Euro to replace Estonian kroon

Estonia will join the euro area on January 1, replacing its national currency, the kroon, with the euro.

As a service to the public, all euro area central banks, including the Central Bank of Malta, will exchange without charge kroon banknotes for euro during January and February.

Kroons may be exchanged from January 3 to February 28 at the Central Bank of Malta Annexe at St James Counterguard, Valletta, from Monday to Friday from 8.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Banknotes will be exchanged at the irrevocably fixed conversion rate of €1=EEK15.6466 up to a limit of €1,000 per transaction.

There will be power cuts in the following localities on Wednesday:

Between 7.30 a.m. and 3 p.m. in Tal-Għajn, Ta’ Mulejja, Xlendi and Għajn Tuta streets, Lunzjata Valley and the surrounding areas in Fontana.

Between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. in Judge Pawlu Debono, Esperanto and Mgr Carmelo Zammit streets in Msida.

Between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. in Ta’ L-Għall street, the Il-Qasam Ta’ San Ġorġ, Ta’ Mejjieli, and Ta’ Ħabel Żwejra areas and the surrounding areas in Salina.

Between 8.30 a.m. and 3 p.m. in Salini street, part of Santa Marija street and the surrounding areas in Marsalforn.

Half day of recollection

The Lay Fraternity of Charles de Foucauld is organising a half day of recollection around the theme of the Incarnation on Sunday, January 2, at the Capuchins Centre in Floriana between 9.30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Fr Nicholas Cachia will lead the reflection.
