ABELA. On December 19, at San Pietro Hospital, Rome, Fr JOHN ABELA, ofm, aged 56, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his brother friars of the Maltese Franciscan Province of St Paul the Apostle, his mother Vitor, his brother Karistu, many relatives and friends. The funeral cortège leaves the old Luqa airport today at 1.30 p.m. and proceeds to St Mary of Jesus Friary (Ta’ Ġieżu), Rabat. Season’s greetings

The European Commission Representation

The European Commission Representation in Malta at Dar l-Ewropa, 254, St Paul Street, Valletta, will be closed for the festive season between today and Sunday, January 2, 2011, both days inclusive. The Representation will resume normal working hours on Monday, January 3, 2011.

Power cuts

There will be power cuts as follows tomorrow:

Between 8 a.m. and noon in Il-Lanġas and Franġisku Pisani streets, parts of Il-Ħawħ, Ġnien iċ-Ċirasa, Ir-Ragħajja and High streets and the surrounding areas in Naxxar.

Maltapost branches

Maltapost branches will be on shutdown on Monday but will reopen on Tuesday. This change in schedule was made by agreement with the Malta Communications Authority.

St Julians mail services

The St Julians Maltapost branch at Lombard Bank will be open between 8.30 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. The closest alternatives are: SPO Golosa, 146, Swieqi Road, Swieqi; Maltapost branch, 95, Naxxar Road, San Ġwann and 118, Manwel Dimech Street, Sliema.
