BONNICI. On August 10, at Zammit Clapp Hospital, MARIA of Gżira, aged 91, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children and their respective families, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Zammit Clapp Hospital today at 2 p.m. for Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish church, Gżira, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be greatly appreciated. Lord, grant her eternal rest.
SCHEMBRI. On August 9, at Saint James Capua Hospital, Sliema, MARY, widow of Joseph, aged 79, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. A dedicated and loving mother who will be deeply mourned by her sons William and Patrick and his wife Michelle, her daughters Lillian and Joan and her husband Joseph, her grandsons Nigel, Gareth Lee, Josef Peter and Jeremy Paul, relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Saint James Capua Hospital today at 8 a.m. for the Gżira parish church where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 8.30 a.m., followed by interment at the Żabbar cemetery.

VELLA. On August 10, PAUL, aged 65, passed away peacefully at his residence in Balzan. He leaves to mourn his loss his ever-loving wife Massie, née Pace, his only daughter Martina and her fiancé Marco, his brothers and sisters Joe and his wife Anna, Bernardette and her husband Donald Spiteri, Anna, France and his wife Nina, his in-laws Mona Zammit, Stephanie Pace, Roseanne and Victor Licari, Norman Pace, Kristine and Norman Grima and Gloria Smith, several nephews and nieces and his many friends from Christ The King prayer group. The funeral is taking place tomorrow with Mass being celebrated praesente cadavere at Balluta church, St Julians at 8.30 a.m., followed by interment in the family grave close to the back entrance of the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Feast of St Leonard
St Leonard Band Club of Kirkop said that external festivities for the feast of St Leonard will take place between August 17 and 23.
The band club noted that next November 6 happens to be the 1450th anniversary of the saint's death. This feast will feature the traditional fireworks display. For the second year, on the Saturday, a display of fireworks will take place, with the highlight being a 1,000-foot chain ground firework - a record breaker for the Maltese Islands.
