FELICE. On March 20, FERDINAND, B.Sc., Ph.C. (Royal University of Malta, 1939), passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of the Roman Catholic Church at the venerable age of 90. He leaves to mourn his great loss his beloved wife Olga née Agius, to whom he was married for 62 years. In his good and long life he was devoted to Olga and their children, dedicated to the teaching of science at St Albert the Great College in Valletta, and to the practice of pharmacy, having been president of the Malta Chamber of Pharmacists in the 1970s. He is fondly remembered by his children Alex and his wife Joanna, Donald and his wife Marina, Mary Ann, widow of the recently departed Charles Sant Fournier, David and his wife Nikki, his grandchildren Nicholas and Tiziana Micallef, Paul and Francesca Sammut, Rebecca and Patrick Custo, Vera and Sean Azzopardi, Sam and Ella, and his great-granddaughter Katrina. Also remembering him are the children of his brothers, the late Paul and Vincent: Alfred and Jane, Anthony and Sharry, Joseph and Doreen, Paul and Helen, Joe and Jo, and Anna and the rest of the family in North America, along with his in-laws Edgar and Anne Agius, Yvonne and Peter Hall, and Emilio and Mary Agius, their children, the children of Olga's deceased brothers and sisters, countless former students, professional collaborators, and many friends. Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service, praesente cadavere today at 2 p.m., at St Augustine parish church, Valletta. Flowers are welcome and donations to charitable institutions may be made in his memory and for the repose of his soul. The family is grateful to colleagues who assisted him in his final days at Karin Grech and Mater Dei Hospitals. While thanking all those who have expressed their sorrow, the family prefer not to receive visitors at home. Lord, giver of life, embrace him in your open arms and may he rest in peace.

MUSCAT. On March 22, at Mater Dei Hospital, JOSEPH of Valletta, widower of Biċe, née Zahra, aged 88, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of the Roman Catholic Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his children Marilene, Joyce, widow of Joseph Attard, Emma, widow of Victor Custo, Frank of Australia, Carmen, widow of his son Tony, of Australia, Louis and his wife Roseann of Australia, Polly and her husband Charlie Camilleri of Australia, and Joey and his wife Josephine, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his sister-in-law Therese Muscat, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 1.45 p.m. for St Paul Shipwrecked parish church, Valletta, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.15 p.m., followed by interment in the family chapel at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be greatly appreciated. The family regret they are unable to receive visitors. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

Talk on Beijing Olympics Ceremony

A talk on the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics from the perspective of Chinese culture will be delivered on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the China Cultural Centre in Valletta. That ceremony had combined Chinese traditional elements, modern development and the Olympic spirit. Zhang Lili, head programme officer at the centre, will lead the journey back to those magical moments.

China's famous film director, Zhang Yimou who is best known for the movies Raise The Red Lantern and House Of Flying Daggers, had spent three years designing the spectacle in a bid to encapsulate 5,000 years of history in a 50-minute show.
