CALG. On October 24, at her residence in Kappara, LILIANA, aged 62, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her partner Edward, her only daughter Chantal and husband Zdravko, her grandchildren Alexandra and Jade, her sister Gloria, her brothers Marcel, Steve and his wife Catherine, nephews and nieces, relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 1.30 p.m. for Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish church, Balluta, where Mass praesente cadavere will be celebrated at 2 followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata cemetery. Lord grant her eternal rest.

On October 26, at Mater Dei Hospital, JOSEPHINE, née Zarb (Tal-Bożen), of Senglea, residing at Ta' l-Ibraġ, aged 84, widow of Emanuel, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Michael and his wife Eileen, Mary and her husband Tony Coppini, Carmen and her husband Marcel Eminyan, Edward and his wife Moira, her sister Frida Schembri, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Mass praesente cadavere will be said today at 2.30 p.m. at Maria Bambina Basilica, Senglea, followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be appreciated. The family regret they are unable to receive visitors. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

TABONE. On October 26, at Mater Dei Hospital, LILIAN, née Galea, widower of Rosario, aged 92, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She will be sadly missed by her beloved children Susan and Anthony, her precious grandchildren Carol and her husband Alloysious, Rachel and her husband Pippo, Livia and Ray, her much-loved great-grandchildren Jacob and Cristana, her sisters Margaret, Joan, Terry and Winnie, her brothers Joe and his wife Rose, Vincent and his wife Yvonne, her sister-in-law Vicky Galea, Inez Scicluna, Christine and Barbara Tabone, nephews and nieces and other relatives and friends. ALPS to honour Puccini

As part of its cultural calendar, the Association of Lyceum Past Students (ALPS) is organising a grand vocal concert to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Giacomo Puccini. The concert will be held at the Hotel Phoenicia Ballroom on Thursday at 7.30 p.m.

Set up by ALPS Cultural Commission chairman Joe Fenech, the concert will feature seven of Malta's best soloists and the ALPS Choir, trained by Yolanda Micallef. There will be sopranos Claire Caruana, Karen Camilleri and Anita Cauchi; tenors Joseph Aquilina and Bernard Busuttil; and baritones Kevin Caruana and Louis Cassar. Louiselle Pace Gouder will feature as guest singer. Cynthia Genovese and Yolanda Micallef will be at the pianoforte, along with trumpeters Horace Aquilina, Justin Azzopardi and Leandro Colombo, all three members of the Società Filarmonica Sliema.

Creative documentaries

Cultural diversity documentaries produced by final year students at the National Film and Television School in London will be screened at St James Cavalier Cinema in Valletta this evening at 6 p.m.

The screenings are part of a MEDIA Desk Malta seminar on documentary filmmaking and EU funding taking place today at 9.30 a.m. at St James. The half day seminar for audiovisual professionals is being organised in collaboration with St James, MEDIA Desk UK and MEDIA Desk Cyprus.

The seminar, addressed by international speakers, will focus on various aspects of creative documentaries.
