DEBONO. On July 14, at Gozo General Hospital, Victoria, Dr JOSEPH DEBONO, widower of Maria,née Mifsud, aged 84, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his irreparable loss his childrenDr Mary DeBono Borg, wife of Tony Borg, Sonia, wife of Victor Mifsud, his grandchildren Alexander, David, James and Brian, his sister Carmen Vella, his nephews and niece, Eddie Vella, architect Guido Vella and Mary Debono, his in-laws Sam, Charlie, Joseph, Vincenza, other relatives and numerous friends. The funeral leaves Gozo Hospital tomorrow at 4.45 p.m. for December 13 Street, Nadur (opposite Mnarja Band Club), from where it proceeds to Nadur parish church where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 5.30 p.m., followed by interment at Nadur cemetery.

DEGIORGIO. On July 12, PAULETTE,née Micallef, formerly of Sliema, aged 62, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her beloved husband Francis, her dear mother Agnes, widow of Louis Micallef, her sisters Miriam, wife of Alfred Bonnici, Nanette and her husband Richard Grech, Doreen and her husband Joseph Cortis, her brothers John, widower of Elizabeth, Ino and his wife Agnes, Joseph, widower of Jane, Vincent and his wife Sina, her nephews and nieces, in-laws, relatives and friends in Malta and Australia. A funeral service was held yesterday at St Leo church, Melbourne, Australia. A memorial Mass in Malta will be said tomorrow at 9.30 a.m. at the Carmelite parish church, Balluta, St Julians.

VELLA. On July 16, ANTHONY, aged 69, passed on to eternal life, comforted by the rites of the Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved wife Grace, his daughters Joann and her husband Charles, Danielle and her husband Reuben, Marietta and her husband Duncan, his cherished grandchildren Nicole, Matthew and Laura and all his and his wife's family and friends. The funeral leaves Republic Street, Victoria, Gozo, accompanied by the La Stella Band today at 4.30 p.m. for St George's Basilica, where Mass praesente cadavere will be celebrated at 5 p.m., followed by interment at St Mary's Cemetery. No flowers by request, but donations to the Arka Foundation, Għajnsielem,will be greatly appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

MTA Chairman re-appointed

Sam Mifsud has been re-appointed chairman of the Malta Tourism Authority. The members of the authority are Joseph Cappello, Tony Coleiro, Kevin Decesare, John Dimech, Philip Fenech, Ray Fenech, Julian Jaeger, Joseph Muscat, Iain Tonna and Caroline, Zammit.

Discover Gozo bus

A bus calling at places of interest for the benefit of locals and tourists will be introduced in Gozo next week on a trial basis for three weeks.

The bus will leave Sabina Square, Victoria at two-hour intervals from 9.30 a.m. It will proceed to Mġarr, Nadur, Ramla, Ġgantija, Marsalforn, Ta' Pinu, Dwejra, Ta' Dbiegi, Xlendi and back to Victoria. Details about the service will be available in hotels, at the ferries and in other tourist spots. This service forms part of an EU project aimed at creating standards for sustainable tourism in the Mediterranean.

Pastel Society exhibition

The Pastel Society of Malta will be holding an exhibition at the Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce, Palazzo de La Salle, 219, Republic Street, Valletta, between September 25 and October 7. The society is inviting artists who work in pastel and wish toparticipate but are not members to contact the Pastel Society president on 2124 4339, 2124 4400, 7929 2546 or at staines@onvol.net.
