DEBONO. On June 11, at Casa Antonia, Balzan, MIRIAM, née Fenech, widow of Maurice, aged 81, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her beloved sons Edward and his wife Claire, Martin and his wife Dorothy, David and his wife Johanna, her beloved grandchildren Jonathan, Rebecca, Maria, Daniel and Nicholas, her brother Prof. Frederick Fenech and his wife Mary Rose, Marlene, widow of her brother Joe, her in-laws Josephine and Alex Gollcher, Mark and Linda Debono, Albert and Anne Debono, Paul and Margaret Debono and Mary and Gino Genuardi, her many nephews and nieces, relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Casa Antonia, Balzan, today at 1.30 p.m. for St Theresa Sanctuary, Birkirkara, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2 p.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. GALEA. On June 6, Joe, of Valletta, residing in Sta Luċija, passed away in Corfu. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, Vivienne, his children Miriam and her husband Clifford Williams, Marilyn and her husband Charles Farrugia and Antray,. his grandchildren Sheryl and her husband Jeffrey Green, Keith and his wife Victoria, Jennifer, Jonathan, Josianne, Michelle, Nathan and Carl and their fiancés, and his great-grandchildren Sean and Kyle, his brother Fr Benjamin Galea OFM, his sister-in-law Stella and her husband John Spiteri, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends including members of the Scout Movement. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 7.30 a.m. for Sta Luċija parish church, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 8.30 a.m. followed by interment in the family chapel at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. On June 10, CHESSIE, née Galea, passed away peacefully at her residence in Valletta, aged 76, comforted by the rites of Holy Church, after a long illness borne with determination, indomitable fighting spirit and exemplary Christian courage. She leaves to mourn her great loss her husband Nuntio (Nonnie), her son Albert and his wife Susan, her daughter Victoria (Vicky) and her husband Cornelius, her grandchildren Christian, Cecilia and Gabriella, her sister Doris Caruana, her brothers Paul and his wife Grace, Ronald and his wife Elizabeth and George and his wife Maria of Edinburgh, as well as numerous relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 7.30 a.m. for St Dominic parish church, Valletta, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 8 a.m., followed by interment at Żabbar cemetery. Training of councillors

A co-operation agreement between the Local Councils Association and the Associazione Nazionale dei Comuni Italiani has been signed by the two entities.

The agreement provides help in the use of EU funds and the training of councillors and employees of local councils.

Summer crafts courses

The Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce will be organising summer morning courses in crafts between mid-July and mid-September.

All the courses will be held at Palazzo De La Salle, 219 Republic Street, Valletta, in the morning, including Saturdays.

Courses will be held in the following craft subjects: Glass Painting, Parchment Crafts, Beading, Cottage Craft, Crochet, Dress Making and Cutting Out, Embroidery, Embroidery in Gold, Filigree, Ganutell, Knitting, Malta Lace, Mixed Crafts (Candles and Decoupage), Monastery, Needle Handcrafts, Soft Furnishing, Tailoring and Hansa.

The cost of each course is €37.27 (Lm16) and will run over nine sessions of three hours each session for nine consecutive weeks, between 8.30 a.m. and 11.30 a.m.

Application forms and further details on the courses can be obtained from the society from Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.

110th anniversary

The Fra Antoine De Paule Philharmonic Society of Paola will be holding a programme of activities between June 19 and 22 to mark the 110th anniversary of its foundation and the 10th anniversary of the acquisition of the new statue of Christ the King.

The highlight is a concert by Christ the King Band directed by Archibald Mizzi in Antoine De Paule Square on June 21 at 8.30 p.m. The statue of Christ the King will be taken out of the club and displayed in the square during the concert.

A new ceiling painting at the club's hall by Adonai Camilleri Cauchi will be unveiled after the concert.

Activities on June 22 will include a Thanksgiving Mass at the Paola parish church by parish priest Fr Vinċenz Cachia at 11 a.m.

Carmelo Pace music

A concert of works by Carmelo Pace, the 20th century prolific Maltese composer, will be given at Mdina Cathedral by the Gaulitanus Choir on Tuesday at 7.30 p.m., organised by the Mdina Cathedral Museum Committee.

Prayer meeting

The committee Moviment Madonna Tal-Konsagrazzjoni will be meeting at Girgenti on Sunday at 6.30 p.m.

Maritime and yacht security course

Camper and Nicholsons Grand Harbour Marina, in conjunction with the International Bodyguards Association and Signal Eight Security Malta, will be holding an International Maritime and Yacht Security course at the marina between July 7 and 9.

The intensive three-day course, open to any personnel with an interest in security needs on luxury yachts, will provide delegates with a history of maritime terrorism, crime and piracy - with a view towards identifying relevant trends for the industry.

The course will also familiarise the participants with various types of security equipment and systems in use through a mixture of theory-based exercises, practical challenges and bodyguard etiquette.

Assistance for animal breeders

Applications for ad hoc assistance for 2008 for full-time animal breeders are being accepted, the Rural Affairs Ministry said. It said this help was co-financed between the European Union and the Maltese government.

For their application to be processed, the breeders should take their applications to the slaughterhouse in Marsa up to June 27 between 7.30 a.m. and 2 p.m.

First-time applicants should collect the application forms from the Rural Development Department at Għammieri or from the IACS Department in Victoria.

Lyric singers competition

The I Solisti Napoletani Association has launched the XIV International Competition for Lyric Singers which will be held in Ercolano, Naples, Italy.

The competition is open to females born after September 30, 1974 and males born after September 30, 1972. Applications should reach the secretariat of the competition by not later than the September 13.
