VASSALLO. On February 27, at Mater Dei Hospital, JOSIE, widower of Maria née Dimech, of Fgura, aged 81, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his son-in-law John Cachia, widower of Mary, his dearest grandchildren Mark, Matthew and Jeanette, Luke and Joanne, his great- grandchildren Madvay and Cyonei, his brother Charles and his wife Maria, his sisters Rose of Canada and Lina, his in-laws, nephews, nieces and friends.
The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 7.30 a.m. for the Carmelite parish church, Fgura where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 8.30 a.m. followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata cemetery. Lord grant him eternal rest.

Mass for graduates

The Gozitan Graduates Movement is inviting graduates and members of all professions in Gozo to hear Mass on March 7 at St Augustine church, Victoria at 8.30 p.m. Confessions will be heard from 8.15 p.m.

Lectures on preventive conservation

Heritage Malta will be holding two public lectures on preventive conservation by Tim Padfield who is a world authority on the subject.

The first lecture entitled Environmental Standards Force Cumbersome Environmental Control. Is This Necessary And Wise? will be held at the former Royal Naval Hospital, Triq il-Missjoni Taljana, Bighi, Kalkara today at 5.30 p.m.

Dr Padfield presents successes and failures of environmental control around art, with emphasis on the dominant role of standards.

On March 6, Dr Padfield will lecture on the role of the building in conserving its content at the same venue at 5.30 p.m.

Dr Padfield, who is lecturing students following the M.Cons. programme, is a freelance consultant in preventive conservation.

He has worked in the Conservation Department of the Vitoria and Albert Museum, the Department of Earth Sciences of the University of Leeds and in the Conservation Department of the National Museum of Denmark.

Music marathon

BJ's Nightclub in Paceville has started preparations for the 19th live music marathon in aid of Wishing Others Week (WOW) which is the social arm of the Millennium chapel in Paceville.

The marathon will start at 5 p.m. on Easter Monday, March 24, and end non-stop day and night a week later.

All musicians and singers are being invited to take part.

According to Philip Fenech of BJ's, the marathon helps preserve live music as a form of entertainment while it is a fund-raiser for WOW, which helps people who are grappling with problems.

Musicians and singers are to register their intention to participate in the marathon by phoning or SMSing on 9949 3534, by calling BJ's on 2137 7642 or by going there personally.

Business networking skills

A seminar for people interested in acquiring or improving their business networking skills will be held at the Westin Dragonara Hotel, St Julians on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Led by Will Kintish and organised by MGI Finconsult Ltd, the seminar is designed to teach participants how to build relationships that lead to potential business-making.

Saxophone concert

The Johann Strauss School of Music in collaboration with the Gozo School of Music are presenting a saxophone concert at the Sacrestia Vault,Valletta Waterfront tomorrow at 7 p.m.

The concert, entitled Saxophone Versatility, will include classical and jazz pieces by Debussy, Ibert, Naulais, Joplin, Ellington and Mancini.

The first part will feature a solo saxophone and piano piece and the second will consist of a saxophone quartet and percussion performance.

Entrance is free.

Sacred music concert

The St Catherine Band of Żurrieq will perform a programme of sacred music on Palm Sunday, March 16, from 10 a.m., at Republic Square, Żurrieq under the direction of assistant bandmaster Mario Testa.

Prayer meeting

The committee Moviment Madonna tal-Konsagrazzjoni will be holding a prayer meeting at Girgenti, Siġġiewi on Sunday at 4 p.m.
