CALLEJA. On May 30, at Mater Dei Hospital, VINCENT of St Paul’s Bay, brother of the late Fr Ġuzepp Calleja, OFM Conv., passed away peacefully at the age of 62, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his great loss his brothers Carmelo and his wife Tessie, Paul and his wife Mariella, his sister Rita and her husband Tony Grima, his nephews and niece John Joseph, Mary Ann Therese, Jean Paul, Massimo, Cleaven, Christian, Reuben, Stefan and Nathaniel, his cousins, other relatives and friends. The funeral cortége leaves Mater Dei Hospital on Saturday, June 2, at 7am for Our Lady of Sorrows parish church, St Paul’s Bay, where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 8am, followed by interment in the family grave at the Divine Mercy (Ħniena Divina) Cemetery, St Paul’s Bay. No flowers by request but donations to Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

SCERRI. On May 28, at Mater Dei Hospital, MARIO, aged 65, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his great loss his beloved wife Doreen, née Chappell, his daughter Michelle, his son Myron and his wife Charmaine, his brother Joseph, his sister Pauline and their families, in-laws, nephews and nieces, many relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital on Saturday, June 2 at 8am for St Joseph the Worker parish church, Birkirkara, where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 8.30am, followed by interment in the family grave at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Id-Dar il-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

VELLA. On May 30, at St Vincent de Paul residence, DORIS, née Borg, widow of Dominic, aged 81, passed away peacefully com-forted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Marisa and her husband Walter Ellul, Marco and his wife Sylvia, Marilena and her husband Filippo Valera, her beloved grandchildren Maria and her husband Eric Flask, Cheryl Ann, Graziella and Joseph, Martha and Frans and her great-granddaughter Annamaria, her in-laws, their respective families, relatives and friends. The funeral cortége leaves St Vincent de Paul residence today, Thursday, May 31, at 1.15pm for St Venera parish church where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 2pm, followed by interment in the family grave at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Lord, grant her eternal rest. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all the staff of John Paul Wards 1 and 6, St Vincent de Paul residence.

World Children’s Day

To mark World Children’s Day tomorrow, the Malta China Friendship Society, in collaboration with the Chinese Cultural Centre in Malta and the Centre for Chinese Traditional Medicine of the University of Malta, is organising a lecture by acupuncture practitioner Wang Xiao.

Dr Wang provides TCM service at the Centre for Traditional Chinese Medicine of the University of Malta.

His lecture “More Care Better Childhood” will focus on the use of acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine to cure children who suffer from indigestion, delayed development, eczema, urticarial, severe colds and asthma.

The University of Malta, in collaboration with the Shanghai University of Chinese Traditional Medicine, is offering a Master’s degree course in TCM. Eleven Maltese and foreign students have already graduated. The Masters level course is open to medical professionals, doctors, nurses, midwives and physiotherapists.
