Michael Zeiler, a cartographer from the website GreatAmericanEclipse.com has created a remarkable animation showing the path the forthcoming lunar eclispe will take.
The animation was uploaded onto social media yesterday.
Zeiler told Reuters that the animation shows the appearance of the moon for each minute of the eclipse and the side of the moon that will be able to see the eclipse itself.
He also told Reuters that he used data from Nasa to create the animation.
Zeiler spoke enthusiastically about the upcoming lunar eclipse saying "you will see a wonderful progression of colours from white to grey to coppery reds on the moon" and that lunar eclipses are "exquisitely beautiful and well worth the small effort to see".
A supermoon lunar eclipse, a phenomenon which last occurred more than three decades ago, will be visible to people in the Americas on Sunday and to those in western Europe and parts of Africa early on Monday.
