The animal ambulance pilot project which comes to an end today is being extended and offered 24 hours a day by the Animal Welfare Department, which has been strengthened with additional human resources and vehicles.

In the past months, the service was operated by Noah’s Ark. The government financed the service for a six month €15,000 contract and had bought an ambulance for the purpose.

In the past months, there were more than 2,000 rescue interventions. All cats and dogs rescues were neutered and microchipped, the Rural Affairs Ministry said.

It said that the service was to continue preparing the department for the operation of an animal welfare centre at Ta’ Qali in the coming months.

To use the animal ambulance service, one should call 2122 4001.
