Malta missed out on a place in the final of the European Championship Division C after they lost to Andorra 82-60 in last night's semi-final at the University Sports Complex.

The Andorrans will now meet Denmark in today's final while the Maltese will face Moldova in the play-off for third place.

Bruno Dipietrantonio's men endured a difficult start to the match as Andorra quickly stamped their authority in the opening quarter to surge into a 28-14 lead after the opening 10 minutes of play.

The hosts tried to get back into the match and despite the efforts of Sam Deguara and Joshua Jackson, Malta found it difficult to bridge the gap and at the interval they were still trailing their opponents by 13 points, 44-31.

On the restart, the Andorrans continued to administer their advantage with the Maltese still struggling to impose their game and the visitors started the final session with an assuring 10-point advantage.

The last session was a mere formality for the Andorrans who found little difficulty to protect their lead.

Jackson and Deguara were Malta's leading scorers with 17 points each.

Today: 11.15 a.m. San Marino vs Gibraltar; 1.30 p.m. Wales vs Scotland. Third-place play-off 3.45 p.m. Malta vs Moldova. Final 6 p.m. Denmark vs Andorra.
