Although a drop was registered in the number of band club members, the 90 active clubs in the Maltese islands still boasted a membership of 30,195, the National Statistics Office said.
The clubs, the NSO said, registered an overall drop of 0.3 percent when compared to 2007.
The number of band players, both resident and trainee, totalled 3,931, an increase of 0.1 percent, over 2007.
Participation in band clubs is still dominated by men, who formed 77.5 percent of total membership. Female participation registered an overall drop of 0.6 percent.
Women representatives on band committees showed the most significant decline. These made up 6.7 percent of the total, a proportionate drop of nearly half when compared to 12.7 percent in 2007.
