Throughout this electoral campaign Azzjoni Nazzjonali has managed to speak about issues that other parties feared to bring up, such as illegal immigration and hunting, AN leader Josie Muscat said.

He said an AN representation in Parliament would be a historical change and the party would be committed to speak up against any scandals and respect Maltese values.

He was addressing representatives of the constituted bodies and members of the press during a business breakfast held at The Palace Hotel, in Sliema.

Dr Muscat said that during this electoral campaign several people he met had told him they had not learnt anything valuable as the campaign had been limited to the issues of the reception class, surcharge, overtime and corruption.

There were many other important issues that affected the public and AN had raised subjects such as alternative energy, carbon emissions and the health system and also had the guts to talk about illegal immigration, hunting and the fact that the political parties did not publish their accounts, Dr Muscat said.

If elected to Parliament, AN pledged to strive to ensure 10 points that summed up the majority of the proposals contained in the party's electoral manifesto.

These points included ensuring that all laws applied to citizens and members of Parliament alike; setting up an auditing company to monitor the way government funds were spent; having a President elected by the people and a smaller Parliament; setting up a state council where people could go if they felt they were the victims of an injustice; ensuring strict laws that would protect citizens in their villages; giving particular attention to the unity of the family; working to reduce taxes; increasing pensions; taking measures to reduce bureaucracy; and ensuring that Gozo was managed by the Gozitans.

Dr Muscat said that, although AN had only been around for five months, the other parties' behaviour over the past weeks suggested that they were threatened by AN's presence.
