Azzjoni Nazzjonali said today it will will be joining the protest organized by the GWU against the utility tariffs this Thursday.

The MLP and AD have already said they would do so, as have the Malta Union of Teachers and the Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses.

Azzjoni Nazzjonali said it was the first to point out, prior to the election, that Enemalta was, for all intents and purposes bankrupt.

"We stated that the government was not only being misleading when it reiterated that this was not the case but that it would also use the international situation to disguise its own sheer incompetence in running this enterprise. The fact that it still fails to publish Enemalta's audited accounts speaks volumes," the party said.

"Energy is the lifeblood of our economy, and access to it is a substantial factor determining our standard of living. The arrogant, unilateral and economically suicidal way that this government is dealing with this crucial aspect, using every conceivable excuse to tax in order to refill the public coffers that it exhausted, should be resisted at every opportunity – until those responsible are brought to account," AN said.

Azzjoni Nazzjonli urges the public, to join it and the other social partners in this national and non partisan protest, to show their discontent over the way this government is riding roughshod over the people it claims to represent.
