Athough AN did not get "an avalanche" of votes in the European Parliament elections, it had never expected to, leader Josie Muscat said this morning.

Addressing a news conference, he said AN did not have the means and it had to face two elections since it was set up two years ago.

The party never tried to attract votes by proposing unacceptable solutions. And although its voice was small, it was determined to strengthen the voice of the Maltese and ensure that their voice was strong.

Had AN not raised the problem of immigration, no one would have done that. Would Jacques Barrott and Gunther Verheugen come to Malta and would the government have proposed changes to the Dublin II convention, he asked.

He pointed out that the people were not told about the full implications of the Lisbon Treaty before this was ratified by Parliament and he urged the EU Parliament office in Malta to explain it further.
