Rubberbodies collective are premiering their new work 100, a visual dance theatre performance, tonight.

As much as they aim to create work in relation to the Maltese social context, they also aspire to integrate art in society and encourage people to experience theatre. Following their performance Grace u Rofflu, the collective has continued to document the processes, approaches and techniques undertaken to create their work.

The collective believes that art and culture should not be separated and are in constant search for historical and cultural locations which can be transformed into artistic spaces. Rubberbodies want to push art forward in Malta’s culture and plans to develop this not only with artists, but with a participating community. The collective wants to bring art to the people and thus for 100 they will be using one of the vaults of the Knights Building at Dock No.1 in Cottonera. They are working on turning a historical vault into a temporary theatre and concert hall.

Their production will touch upon the themes of love and gender. Through the exploration of these subjects and how they are perceived in society, the artists will be creating space, painting it with different dynamics, textures and images. These themes are investigated through the concepts and roles of women and man and their relationship with death, summer and winter.

• Performances are also being held tomorrow, on Sunday and on November 27 and 28 at 8.30 p.m. There will also be a 50-minute live symphonic ambient concert by sound designer Mario Sammut on November 28. Tickets may be obtained from St James Cavalier by phone on 2122 3200 or online: http://sjcav.org
