Ħamrun Tre Angeli came from behind to beat Mrieħel ESS 6-3 to deny their opponents a place in the Elite round of the Gatorade League.

The Reds bounced back from a lacklustre first half to score five goals without reply as they sealed the points that kept them in third place.

Mrieħel looked well organised at first but failure to take the chances that came their way ultimately contributed to their downfall.

They were off to a stunning start, opening a 3-1 lead at the interval. Ħamrun needed a response and Everton Veve provided them with enough inspiration to save the match as the Brazilian helped himself to a hat-trick with the other goals coming from Jason Mifsud (2) and Alex Ellul.

Mrieħel, who finished in sixth place and will now play in the First Division, had Ayoub Ahmad hitting the target twice with the other goal scored by Ayrton Duncan.

Msida ended their regular season commitments with a 13-0 hammering of strugglers Żurrieq Wolves to move up to eighth in the standings.

The match was a non-contest as Msida surged into a commanding lead at the interval with the Wolves unable to force a reaction.

Mohammed Elamari scored three times for Msida while Floren Manea, George Frendo, Liam Cachia and Chris Cardona scored a brace apiece. Chris Cutajar and Ryan Xuereb added to Msida’s tally.

In another match, Safi San Lorenzo edged Qormi 5-4 to register their sixth victory of the season.

Safi’s experienced player Clive Calleja was in fine form as he netted three goals while Jonathan Bellizzi and Franklin Seisun were also on the mark for the winners.

The league resumes today with the top-of-the-table clash between title contenders Luxol and Valletta.

In the late kick-off, Swieqi FC start favourites to claim all three points at the expense of Qrendi.
