A Lands Authority bill currently being debated in parliament should be amended to ensure its board of governors is appointed by professional bodies rather than the minister in charge, the Chamber of Architects has said. 

In a statement issued today, the Chamber said that this would ensure that the board was independent from the government and add another layer of accountability to board members. 

The bill being discussed envisages the appointment by the minister of three professionals, namely an architect, a lawyer and an auditor of recognised standing.
