Green MEPs Helga Truepel and Franziska Keller have, in collaboration with Alternattiva Demokratika, tabled a parliamentary question in the European Parliament asking if European funds are being used for a building in Hay Wharf building obstructing the Valletta heritage site.

They asked how much money was being given by the EU, if any, and under what budget.

AD chairman Arnold Cassola said:

"We are asking if the financing of such eyesore is in compliance with the Unesco Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, to which the EU and its members are party, as well as with Article 3 of the European Union Treaty, namely 'It shall respect its rich cultural and linguistic diversity, and shall ensure that Europe's cultural heritage is safeguarded and enhanced'".
