Men's League

Aloysians Prominent 24
University 23

Aloysians are firm favourites to retain the title after edging past a spirited University side to open a nine-point lead at the top.

University may feel unlucky to finish empty-handed but they have only themselves to blame for allowing a three-goal lead slip away from their hands late in the game.

The match was balanced from start to finish. Midway through the first half, University were leading 9-7 as tension was mounting with four players handed two-minute expulsions.

Aloysians rallied back and took a 14-12 lead at the break courtesy of a Roberto Ragonesi goal on the stroke of half-time.

University had a fine start in the second half and after levelling matters, they raced into a 21-18 lead. Aloysians were panicking but a time-out from player-coach Milos Stanislejevic led the champions to stage a bold recovery.

There was everything to play for with two minutes left as the match was locked at 23-all. With 40 seconds to go, Stanislejevic scored Aloysians' winner.

University had good reason to feel disappointed.

Player of the match: Milos Stanislejevic (Aloysians).

It was not easy for them though as their opponents tried their best to upset the odds and keep within sight of the top placings.

With less than seven minutes to go, Piatnik were only 24-23 up when they had Bryan Pace red-carded. However, despite this upset they still took full control of the final stages to end up as worthy winners.

Standings: La Salle Piatnik 13; Aloysians 10; La Salle Danone, University 6; Kavallieri 0.

Ladies' Promotion League

Kavallieri 9

Standings: Kavallieri 6; University 3; Aloysians 0.

Boys U-16 standings: La Salle Danone 12; Aloysians, La Salle B 6; St Martin's, University 3.
