Fernando Alonso has told a German newspaper that he will not quit F1 if he wins a third title this year.
In an interview with Deutsche Press-Agentur, Alonso said that while he would be happy with three championships he would try for more.
"If I should become a three times world champion, I will try to do it four times. Each year you need new motivations and new goals. This year the motivation is to win with McLaren Mercedes and get the title. And next year will not be different," he said, adding that the pressure would not be as strong however.
Winning the championship means overcoming Ferrari, who have shown outstanding form in this week's testing.
Germany's Sport Bild today quoted Toro Rosso chief Franz Tost as observing: "What Ferrari is testing is basically a new car."
The most significant feature are smaller sidepods, made possible by a new cooling system which has also enabled the team to design a new engine cover. "We are at least half a second faster than before," Ferrari driver Felipe Massa was quoted as saying.
