WasteServ will provide its workers with health insurance cover starting from next month, according to an agreement reached between the government’s waste management agency and the employees’ union.

Workers will also receive an increase in their allowances which they receive for working in difficult and smelly conditions. Those who worked during the move to the Marsascala plant will be given extra leave.

The agreement was reached during a two-hour meeting between representatives of WasteServ and the Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin. The meeting was scheduled by the Employment and Industrial Relations director Noel Vella who intervened as a mediator after the union threatened industrial action over what it said were unfulfilled agreements.
