MRFU League side Alligators have just returned from Italy, their first tour since the club was founded in 1995.

A 17-strong squad made the trip to Bergamo to play a friendly against Dalmine, an Italian Serie C side. Alligators' squad included a blend of experienced and young players. They had two days to practise and acclimatise with the conditions before the match.

The superior Italians led 17-0 at half-time but Alligators improved after the break.

Beppe Sammut scored a try and Renald Sammut converted. However, the latter then injured his ankle during a ruck and required medical treatment. Bergamo made it 22-7 but Mike Farrugia scored the game's final try for a more respectable 22-12 scoreline.

Dalmine have pledged to visit Malta in the future to play a return match against Alligators.

In a statement, Alligators thanked Dalmine for their hospitality as well as Air Malta, Leslie Muscat, Cisk Export, Chukkas, Ze-Turf, Bio Diesel and Colliers for their support.
