A woman who was allegedly raped by her former boyfriend last July looked relaxed when she recounted the incident to the police a few hours later, a police sergeant told a court today.

Giving evidence during the arraignment of a 34-year-old man who stands accused of the rape, Police Sergeant Anton Buttigieg said that the police called at the home of the victim on the morning after the incident.

She looked relaxed, offered them drinks and laughed occasionally as she told them that her former boyfriend called at her house to collect his belongings after their breakup.

Since he was drunk, she suggested he stay overnight since he was not fit to drive.

Shortly after, he undressed and demanded sex.

When she refused, he assaulted her, punched her, bit her finger and raped her.

The sergeant said the victim had marks which indicated injuries and she was sent to Mater Dei Hospital.

Policewoman Graziella Gatt, who escorted the victim to hospital, said her impression was that her behaviour was not that of a rape victim.

The case continues, with the victim due to be heard by the court at the next sitting.

The court has banned publication of names related to the case.
