A man who broke a leg as he was being chased by the police in April was arraigned in court today, accused of trafficking cocaine and possession of the drug in circumstances which denoted that it was not for his personal use.

Christopher Scerri, 32, was wheeled into the court room on a wheelchair to hear the charges. He pleaded not guilty and was denied bail.

Mr Scerri had been previously charged with burglary at an elderly man’s house in Magazines Street, Mdina.

Two men had been interrupted by the police during the burglary. Mr Scerri allegedly jumped off a roof while trying to flee from the police and broke his leg.

An accomplice was also arraigned.
